Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 6, 2026. This policy applies to the WinSend apps (iOS and Windows) and the winsend.app website.

The short version

WinSend transfers your clipboard and files directly over your local network. Your content never passes through our servers — we couldn't see it even if we wanted to.

  • No clipboard content is ever collected or transmitted to us
  • No file names or file contents are ever collected or transmitted to us
  • No account, no sign-up — we don't ask for your name, email, or phone number
  • We collect anonymous usage analytics (described below) to improve the product and diagnose connection issues

What we collect

App analytics (iOS and Windows apps)

To understand how the app is used and to diagnose connection failures, the apps send anonymous usage events to our analytics provider:

  • A randomly generated device identifier (a UUID stored locally on your device). It is not tied to your identity and is used only to tell events from the same installation apart
  • Device name, operating system, and app version
  • Usage events: app start, device discovery and connection attempts/results, feature usage counts (e.g. refresh, update check), and error events
  • Transfer metadata: file size and transfer duration only — never file names or contents
  • Network diagnostics: your /24 network segment (e.g. 192.168.8.0/24, never your full IP address), network profile type (public/private), and whether a firewall rule for the app exists — used solely to diagnose "can't connect" problems

Website analytics (winsend.app)

Page views, download button clicks, and web performance metrics (Web Vitals), collected with a randomly generated anonymous visitor ID.

Surveys

If you voluntarily submit an in-app survey, we receive the answers you provide.

How we use the data

  • Measure feature usage and improve the product
  • Diagnose connection and installation failures (e.g. firewall or router issues)
  • Produce aggregate statistics (e.g. how many devices connected successfully)

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third-party processor

Analytics events are processed by PostHog, Inc. (cloud analytics, hosted in the United States). PostHog acts as our data processor and receives the events described above together with the IP address inherent in any HTTPS request. See the PostHog Privacy Policy.

Your actual transfers (clipboard text, photos, files) travel directly between your devices over the local network and are never sent to PostHog or to us.

Data retention and deletion

Analytics data is retained by PostHog according to their default retention. Because analytics data is tied only to a random UUID and not to your identity, deletion requests are generally fulfilled by resetting or removing the identifier. To request deletion, contact us as described below.

Children

WinSend is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
